It's official: the hybrid model Honda CR-Z, which premiered in 2007 at the Toyko Motor show and is now available across the globe, is among the six finalists for Wheels magazine's "Car of the Year" award. Powered by a 1.5 liter petrol engine that works in tandem with nickel0metal hydride battery technology, this Honda has been described as innovative and refreshing.
James Whitbourn, one of the Wheels judges, describes the CR-Z: "Combine the grin factor with the efficiency promised by the hybrid system and there's little doubt the Honda coupe takes the car where it should be going - smaller, lighter, more efficient and more fun," he states.1 The Honda CR-Z competes against Audi 16, Range Rover Evoque, Skoda Yeti, Ford Focus, and Volkswagen Scirocco R models in the finals of the competition. The judges considered the largest diversity of vehicles this year (the 49th in its history). The vehicles were judged through 3400 kilometers of driving at the Lang Lang Proving Ground in Australia. Eight judges and four helpers participated in the week of severe automobile scrutiny.Wheels will announce the winner on January 18, 2012.
